Harvest's plans for the Battery Site have been approved in outline. The developers can now clean up the site and start work on their full plan. The plan gives them access from the two islands on the Selly Oak New Road and from the Bristol Rd where their service yard will be. As part of the approved plans they have agreed to significant additional works in preparation for a restored Lapal Canal and, while further funds are needed, we now believe that reinstatement of the canal across the site is a viable proposition. The developers also submitted additional design documents in which they outlined various shapes and treatments for the Service yard. While the presence of the service yard on the Bristol Rd is somewhat disappointing the suggested drawings in the additional materials show how the length and impact of the service yard can be minimized. Other proposed changes to the pedestrian and cycling routes within the site make the plan more attractive than its original form. The developers have also agreed to involve local residents in the final plans.
